Mathew Jonson stands as one of electronic music’s most distinctive voices. Instantly recognizable yet never predictable, his sound fuses dancefloor intensity with rich musicality, shaped by his background in classical piano, jazz drumming, and a lifelong passion for analog synthesis. Known for his hands-on approach and commitment to real-time performance, Jonson continues to push the boundaries of house and techno, crafting tracks that are as emotive as they are physical.
Since his early releases on Perlon and Kompakt, Jonson has become a cornerstone of the global electronic scene—co-founding the influential label Wagon Repair and collaborating in acclaimed projects such as Cobblestone Jazz, Midnight Operator, and Modern Deep Left Quartet. Now based in Berlin, his studio remains a playground of vintage machines and live experimentation, yielding timeless tracks like Marionette, Decompression, and albums including Agents of Time and On Her Blurry Pictures. Beyond the studio, he continues to evolve through projects like Freedom Engine and the Freedom Engine Academy, sharing his deep knowledge and passion with new generations of artists. Twenty years into his career, Mathew Jonson remains a rare artist who bridges the raw energy of the club with the depth and soul of live musicianship.
